ConEd president to testify at Senate hearing

The presidents of ConEdison the Metro-North Railroad are among the officials expected to testify at a hearing next week to examine the causes of the of the recent Metro-North power outage, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal announced.

Blumenthal will chair the field hearing of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety and Security, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Bridgeport City Hall.

In addition to ConEd’s Craig Ivey and Metro-North’s Howard Permut, others expected to testify include: John Hartwell of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council; Joseph Boardman, Amtrak’s president and CEO; Otto Lynch of the American Society of Civil Engineers; Joseph McGee of the Business Council of Fairfield County; U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes and U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty.

Blumenthal has said ConEd should be held accountable for not having adequate contingency plans for the power failure. He has also called for significant investment in rail infrastructure between the two states.
