Companies line up to compete for state energy credits

More than a dozen companies are hoping to generate state and federal tax credits by selling their renewable energy to Connecticut electric distributors, according to filings posted by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Responding to a request for proposals issued by the state in July, 15 entities submitted one or more proposals to DEEP in the hopes of qualifying as Class I renewable energy resources.

The state is looking to find renewable power equal to 4 percent of the load distributed by the electricity distribution companies.

Boston’s First Wind submitted five proposals for review, one of which would bring a nine-turbine, 29.7-megawatt installation to Goshen. The other power sources pitched by First Wind, which together total 396.5 megawatts, are located in Maine.

Allco Finance Ltd., based in New York, submitted five solar projects proposals totaling 280 megawatts. The solar panels would be installed in Lebanon, Harwington, Bozrah and Waterbury.
