Commuters beware: Deer and moose season has arrived

Those who drive to the office early and leave late are more likely to encounter deer or moose on the roads, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection warned Tuesday.

Moose breeding season peaks in September and October, partly overlapping with deer breeding season in October through December, DEEP said.

Last year alone, 7,300 deer died in vehicle collisions in Connecticut.

Connecticut’s moose population is small but growing, mostly in the northern part of the state, according to DEEP. Moose-related care crashes in Connecticut have averaged two per year since 2002.
