Our Mission: To inspire philanthropy, responsibly manage permanent charitable assets, and partner to address key community issues through strategic leadership.
Aligned with our mission of addressing key community issues through strategic leadership, the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain is proactive with a portion of its grant-making funds in order to seek out, create and support projects and initiatives that focus on the broader community as well as non-profits that serve the community. By being strategic and investing resources in this manner, the Foundation fulfills its community leadership goal of defining challenges and investing in solutions.

Goals
First Years First: Since 2005 we have invested in early childhood education to increase the school readiness skills of young children so they may progress successfully from Pre-K through Grade 3.
Young Philanthropy: We recognize the need to educate younger generations about the value of contributing one’s time, talent and treasure to support charitable organizations in their community.
Disaster Response: We believe in helping the community prepare for future natural disasters that may impact the communities we serve by determining the role we would play during and after such an event. To that end, we are establishing a new Greater New Britain Disaster Response Fund.
Capacity Building: We have developed workshops and a new lending library for area non-profits to use in our office, which provides access to print and online resources to help reduce costs for organizations.
Degree Completion Initiative: There is a growing trend of college students suddenly facing financial pressures, making it difficult or impossible for them to continue in their education and complete their degrees. We have partnered with CCSU in a pilot program to provide financial assistance to those in the latter part of their education with a good college standing and demonstrated need.
Giving Opportunities
Our annual Civic Leadership Campaign allows us to continue the great work we do in the community as well as increase the number of grants we’re able to give out annually. Additionally, individuals and businesses may start donor advised funds for a small initial gift of $5,000. Each year you or your business will choose nonprofit organizations to make grants to from your fund, and in return you or your business will be recognized as a key community partner!
Volunteer Opportunities
We pride ourselves on being the perfect liaison between volunteers and the nonprofit organizations they are looking to serve. Because we work so closely with our area nonprofits, we know how to match volunteers with organizations whose missions align with their core values. In addition, our Foundation team is always ready to meet with community leaders who are interested in joining our board or committees.
