Community foundation awards scholarships

Bristol’s Main Street Community Foundation has awarded nearly $135,000 in scholarships to 121 students from Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott as well as other communities. This year 146 scholarship grants were awarded from 57 named funds administered by the Community Foundation and established by local individuals, families and businesses.

Farmington’s KBE Building Corp. awarded $17,000 in scholarships to 34 graduating technical high school seniors. One male and one female were selected from each of the state’s 17 technical high schools and received a $500 scholarship to use toward educational expenses for post-high school education in construction, architecture, engineering, or any building trade, including plumbing, electrical, and mechanical.

Achieve Hartford! received a $15,000 grant from Bank of America, which will support one of the nonprofit’s redesigned program strategies, “Building Coalitions and Community Engagement.” The grant will allow Achieve Hartford! to develop partnership work in the community that supports parent engagement, blended/personalized learning, and college and career readiness.

People’s United Community Foundation of Bridgeport awarded $176,000 in grants to nonprofits throughout northern Connecticut. Twenty-eight organizations received funding in support of education programs, basic needs services, workforce development programs, and affordable housing initiatives.
