Gia L. Oei has been elected president of the Connecticut Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. She is the global communications leader for GE’s Industrial Solutions business, responsible for strategy development and execution of all internal and external communications, media relations, executive communications and community affairs. Industrial Solutions has 13,000 employees worldwide and operations in 60 countries.
Others elected include Deb Dupont, director of the ING Retirement Research Institute, becomes secretary; KC Emery, a member of the communication team at ING in Enfield, becomes vice president of membership and communications and Michael Selissen, owner of Case Mountain Communications, becomes treasurer.
Global humanitarian aid nonprofit AmeriCares of Stamford has honored Merck & Co. with its annual Power of Partnership Award for the pharmaceutical firm’s commitment to helping disaster survivors and improving health in the developing world.
Since 1989 Merck has provided AmeriCares with more than $210 million in medicines for distribution to 94 countries.
AmeriCares President and CEO Curt Welling presented the award at the Healthcare Distribution Management Association’s (HDMA) Business and Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.
Bruce White, of Hamden, professor of computer information systems in Quinnipiac University’s School of Business, traveled to Belarus on a Fulbright-Hays grant. He spoke with entrepreneurs at BEL BIZ /Tech Minsk, an international entrepreneurship organization in Minsk, and made presentations on information systems curriculum at the Belarusian Trade and Economics University in Gomel, the second largest city in Belarus.
He also presented at the “Innovation Technology in Economic and Business Education” conference at the university, which focused on distance education, and facilitated several smaller group discussions.
Housatonic Community College President Anita T. Gliniecki has been honored by two civic groups for her contributions to education.
At a recent ceremony, she was presented with the Elizabeth M. Pfriem Civic Award by the Bridgeport Public Education Fund and the Fairfield County Community Foundation. The award is presented annually to a person or organization whose work in the Bridgeport community promotes equity and academic achievement for local students.
