The state legislature’s labor committee, co-chaired by two Democrats, voted Tuesday in favor of legislation proposed by Gov. Dannel Malloy that would raise the state’s minimum wage to $10.10, the governor’s office said.
The bill now heads to the floor of the full Senate.
The vote came one day before President Barack Obama’s scheduled visit Wednesday to Central Connecticut State University in New Britain to promote efforts to raise the federal minimum wage.
It also coincided with a new Quinnipiac University poll showing that 71 percent of state residents approve of a higher minimum wage.Â
New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio also signed a local ordinance Tuesday increasing the minimum wage for city employees and contractors to $10.10.
