Comer named Hfd. City Hall spokesperson

Veteran journalist and public affairs aide Andrea Comer is the new director of communications and new media for the city of Hartford, effective Wednesday, the mayor’s office says.

Comer fills vacancy left by the departure of Sarah Barr, who joined Webster Bank as vice president of external communications.

Comer’s salary is $87,500, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra’s office said Tuesday.

A former board of education member who also at one time was spokesperson for New Haven Mayor John DeStephano, Comer most recently was an administrative analyst for the Hartford Police Dept.

“Andrea is a true professional and I am glad that she has chosen to accept my offer.  I look forward to her being a part of my administration for the foreseeable future,” Mayor Pedro E. Segarra said in a statement Tuesday.

Comer has also worked as the grants manager for the Hartford Department of Health and Human Services; communications director for the Hartford Public Schools; and a reporter and copy editor for The Hartford Courant.
