Global telecommunications company Comcast Corp. is offering high-speed internet programming in the city of Hartford in an effort to bridge the digital divide, the company said this week.
The Philadelphia-based company’s high-speed “Internet Essentials” program is expanding with a senior pilot program for low-income seniors in the Capital City.
Comcast also is investing in nonprofits in the city. The company will provide digital training for more than 3,600 youth served by the Boys & Girls Club of Hartford.
Comcast is also upgrading technology for the Urban League of Greater Hartford to benefit 2,000 individuals and families, and donating more than 100 computers to the Hartford Housing Authority’s Betty Knox Senior Apartment Complex; the YWCA’s Young Women’s Leadership Corps; and the boys and girls club’s My.Future program.
Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin thanked the company for providing the Internet Essentials program for the last six years and recent enhancements they’ve made to make it easier for more residents to get connected. Those enhancements include increasing internet service speeds and providing Internet Essentials customers with 40 hours of free home-based Wi-Fi a month.
“The internet has become a necessity for all Hartford residents, and our aim is to expand access to quality, affordable Internet throughout our city,” said Bronin.
