Comcast, Netflix partner on new viewing technology

Comcast has joined forces with Netflix to launch Netflix service on X1 devices next week.

X1 is operating system that allows subscribers to browse and access Netflix offerings alongside the cable operator’s live, web and on demand programming.

The companies jointly announced the new offering Friday.

With the X1 device, Netflix content will be integrated into Xfinity On Demand, enabling customers to watch past and current seasons of shows, movies, or explore Netflix original series in one place.

“X1 is Comcast’s flagship product, [and] is much more than a cable box or TV guide,” said Kristen Roberts, vice president of communications for Comcast. “X1 is a platform that allows customers to simply and easily browse and access the content.”

The device through which users select viewing content will be in 50 percent of Comcast video customer homes by the end of 2016, Comcast said.
