Coltsville to get national park designation

With the U.S. Senate’s passage of a national defense spending bill Friday, Hartford’s Coltsville neighborhood won national park designation, members of the state’s congressional delegation announced.

Once President Obama signs the bill, which passed the House on Dec. 4, the National Park Service will start the process of establishing the park, which includes developing a management plan and funding sources.

Mayor Pedro Segarra said in a joint statement with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Sen. Chris Murphy and Rep. John Larson that making the former home of the Colt Fire Arms Co. into a national park “will help shape an ongoing renaissance in the City of Hartford, lead to long-term job growth in the region and increase focus on heritage tourism in our state.”
