Cold weather protocol in effect

With single-digit temperatures forecasted for the next few days, Gov. Dannel Malloy has activated the state’s severe cold weather protocol starting Thursday evening and ending Saturday morning.

The protocol aims to provide shelter space and transportation to the state’s most vulnerable residents through the state’s 2-1-1 hotline. A list of shelters is also available at www.211ct.org.

It requires various state agencies, including the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and the Department of Housing to coordinate the effort.

It’s the first time the protocol has been activated in 2016.
