To The Editor:
I just read Laurence Cohen’s piece on media coverage of violent crime (“Focus Won’t Change Urban Violence,” Aug. 27, 2007). His shallow perspective on the issue reflects badly on your publication. Besides boilerplate neocon posturing, dissing the efforts of urban activists such as Cornell Lewis, whose work in the Northend goes well beyond press conferences and media criticism, and Cohen’s non sequitur stats and anecdotes on urban crime elsewhere, what was his point exactly?
Please forward this to Laurence of Suburbia. If he has some answers, I’d love to hear them.
