Ratepayers from Connecticut Light & Power and Yankee Gas conjured up $404,885 for Operation Fuel to provide emergency assistance to people in need.
The money came from a combination of $294,885 in ratepayer donations to the cause and $110,000 in matching funds from the two utilities companies.
Ratepayers raised the money through the Add-a-Dollar program offered on their energy bills. All that money is used for energy assistance for lower income working families, the elderly and the disabled.
Operation Fuel is a Connecticut non-profit. CL&P and Yankee Gas are both Berlin subsidiaries of Hartford’s Northeast Utilities.
