CL&P, UI launch second renewable credit phase

Electric utilities Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating have opened up the second phase of Connecticut’s $1 billion renewable energy credit program, with applications due June 13.

The Zero-emissions Renewable Energy Credit and Low-emissions Renewable Energy Credit, or ZREC/LREC, program awards clean energy projects such as solar and fuel cells money for electricity produced. Each winner receives 15-year contracts, and the program awards out $1 billion over 21 years.

After completing the first round in February, CL&P and UI opened up the second round on April 25. The current solicitation is for all LREC projects and ZREC project greater than 100 kilowatts.

The utilities will hold a bidder’s conference on May 10, close the solicitation on June 13, and make the awards around July 18.
