CL&P, UI accepting bids for $2.6M renewable credits

Connecticut’s two electric utilities have opened the application period for $2.6 million in renewable energy credits for smaller installations.

Berlin-based Connecticut Light & Power and New Haven-based United Illuminating opened the two-week window for Zero Emissions Renewable Energy Credits, or ZRECs, at noon Tuesday and will close it at noon Jan. 22.

The $2.6 million in credits is available to renewable energy installations of less than 100 kilowatts, and the utilities will award the credits on the first-come, first-served basis. Each awardee will receive a 15-year contract.

The small ZREC awards are part of the state’s $1 billion program to proliferate renewable energy installations throughout Connecticut, awarding ratepayer money to installation that emit little or no greenhouse gases.
