CL&P to use helicopters to string power lines

Connecticut’s biggest utility is using a helicopter to help string new high-voltage transmission lines for a Connecticut and Massachusetts transmission line upgrade, The Associated Press reports.

Connecticut Light & Power said Monday the helicopter will eliminate the need to bring workers and vehicles in contact with wetlands and will reduce the time needed to do the work. It’s scheduled to begin Monday and continue periodically through next year.

The towns affected will be Bloomfield, East Granby and Suffield.

The utility is upgrading a 39-mile transmission line between Bloomfield, Conn., and Ludlow, Mass.
