CL&P spending $41 million to prep for summer

Connecticut Light & Power built new substations in Windsor and Waterford and undertook projects in 42 other communities as part of a $41-million overhaul of its system to prepare for the upcoming summer months.

Other projects meant to upgrade the system for the warm weather season-typically the time of greatest energy consumption-include replacing transformers, improving the urban underground electricity systems, performing helicopter surveys of electric transmission lines to test the integrity of connections, and encouraging large commercial and industrial customers to conserve energy during times of peak demand.

CL&P, based in Berlin, provides power to 1.2 million Connecticut customers in 149 of the state’s municipalities.
