CL&P preps system for summer

Berlin electric utility Connecticut Light & Power said it has made preparations for spikes in power demand this summer, along with disaster preparedness now that hurricane season has arrived.

Summer is typically the time for peak power demand in New England, as longer, hotter days lead people to use their air conditioners and other power-sapping equipment.

To prepare for the demand, CL&P performed inspections of 1,600 miles of overhead transmission lines, continued its tree-trimming plans, and installed stronger poles and wires.

CL&P warns customers to stay clear of overhead power lines, prepare an emergency kit, and properly install and operate emergency generators.
