Oakleaf relocates
Oakleaf has officially moved headquarters for its waste and facilities management from East Hartford to larger quarters in Windsor – with the help of taxpayer funds.
Oakleaf got a $3 million state grant last July to defray the cost of outfitting its location at 415 Day Hill Road and moving office equipment and records for some workers from the old East Hartford space.
Oakleaf CEO Steve Preston boasted that many features in the new quarters are some meant to foster staff collaboration and teamwork. For instance, Preston said, whiteboards – the writing surface that is the center prop for the marker-wielding pitchman in United Parcel Service TV ads – are mounted on hallway walls, and meeting space abounds.
In addition, a number of green-building elements were incorporated into the office design, he said. Carpet, ceramic tile and cafeteria counter tops were constructed using recycled materials, along with the use of remanufactured workstations.
