CL&P names Jeff Butler’s replacement

On the eve of Tropical Storm Irene’s anniversary, Berlin electric utility Connecticut Light and Power has named the replacement to its president and chief operating officer who resigned following the 2011 storm response.

Jeffrey Butler resigned as CL&P president and chief operating officer in November after the utility faced widespread public criticism to an outage caused by Tropical Storm Irene on Aug. 28 and a separate outage caused by a Oct. 29 snowstorm.

On Monday – the day before the Irene anniversary – CL&P parent company Northeast Utilities named William Herdegen the new president and chief operating officer of Connecticut’s largest electric utility.

Herdegen is a 35-year veteran of the utility industry and most recently served as vice president of transmission and distribution operations at Kansas City Power & Light. In his time at KCP&L, the company achieved top-quartile reliability in the industry for the past nine years.
