Electric utility Connecticut Light & Power launched a new home energy reporting pilot program on Monday, to help customers understand and reduce their energy usage.
The program, sponsored by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, will send 24,000 randomly selected CL&P customers detailed information about their home’s energy usage and tips to increase their energy efficiency. This is the first time a program such as this has been offered in Connecticut.
“Most people are eager to make their home more efficient and save money on their electric bill, but they’re not always sure where to start,” said Bill Quinlan, CL&P vice president of customer solutions, in a statement. “The Home Energy Reporting program is designed to provide actionable information about energy usage so our customers can make informed choices that have a considerable impact on their wallet and on the environment.”
The reports will arrive in the mail starting this week. The typical report trims 1.5-3.5 percent off a home’s energy usage.
