Climate technology incubator ClimateHaven has partnered with the Regional Water Authority to launch an initiative meant to help speed up the commercialization and deployment of water technologies.
The Water Innovation Hub will help address an urgent need, as U.S. water utilities are projected to require more than $625 billion over the next 20 years to upgrade aging infrastructure, according to a report from the Yale Center for Business and the Environment.
“We’re proud to help shape emerging solutions to water-related challenges that can serve our customers and communities as well as water utilities nationwide,” said Sunny Lakshminarayanan, interim CEO of RWA. “The Water Innovation Hub is not just about technology – it’s about collaboration, enhancing service and water quality, and creating a sustainable water future.”
RWA is a nonprofit water utility serving about 432,000 residents in Greater New Haven.
ClimateHaven and RWA have issued a request for proposals for technologies that can be piloted in 2025. The technologies sought include rapid water quality testing, lead pipe detection and inspection drones.
One selected technology will receive pilot funding, access to RWA systems, data and expertise, and support from ClimateHaven.Â
Applications opened May 28 and will remain open until Aug. 1. Shortlisted finalists will be interviewed in August, and the pilot awardee will be announced in September.
