Washington-based Clearwater Paper Corp. said it has sold its East Hartford paper mill and four others to Michigan’s Dunn Paper Co.
Terms of the transaction, which closed Dec. 30 and includes plants in Michigan, New York, Mississippi and Ontario, Canada, were not disclosed. Those five plants, which comprised Clearwater’s specialty products business, employed 470 workers that will transfer to Dunn paper, the companies said.
Clearwater said it sold the division to better focus on its core consumer products business. It acquired the East Hartford plant in 2010 as a part of a $502 million acquisition of 10 plants from Cellu Tissue.
The East Hartford plant produced 32,000 tons of paper tissue products in 2013, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.
Dunn, headquartered in Port Huron, manufactures paper products used in food packaging and labeling.
