South Windsor clean energy manufacturer ClearEdge Power has sold a replacement fuel cell system to the First National Bank of Omaha.
In 1999, the bank installed a previous generation of the ClearEdge 200 kilowatt fuel cell system. The new model sold to the bank in November will be the latest generation 400 kilowatt system.
The ClearEdge fuel cell generates both electricity and heat. By using the technology, the Omaha bank will be preventing the release of 1,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to planting 350 acres of trees; and the reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions is equal to removing 346 cars from the road.
The fuel cell will be installed at the First National Technology Center in Omaha.
