Citizens Bank Connecticut, with corporate offices in Middletown, joined the Environmental Defense Fund and other large companies in the nationwide Climate Corps to cut down on carbon use and operating costs.
In this third year for the Climate Corps, trained fellows will be embedded into 47 corporations such as Citizens Bank and the Hartford headquarters of Bank of America-Connecticut to identify energy savings and develop potential returns on investment.
The fellows look to improve lighting, computer equipment and heating and cooling systems for maximum energy efficiency.
To date, Climate Corps fellows have identified $89 million in net operating cost savings over project lifetimes, cut 280 million kilowatt hours of energy use and avoided 157,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
