New Haven leaders on Friday outlined their plans for $12.1 million in new state funding earmarked for revitalizing Long Wharf Park.
The State Bond Commission approved the funds in early April.
On Friday, Mayor Justin Elicker hosted a news conference at the Canal Dock Boathouse to celebrate receiving the money, which comes via the state’s Community Investment Fund grant program.
The grant for Long Wharf Park was the largest among the $99 million in program grants being provided to municipalities statewide.
Long Wharf Park includes 18 acres of waterfront. In addition to offering water views, it is known for its dozens of food trucks that offer culinary wares there daily.

Officials said the money will go toward new furniture, a playground, outdoor fitness equipment, upgraded walkways, bike paths, lighting and a food truck pavilion. The funds will also be used for furnishings and landscaping near the war memorials at the park, to beautify the area for visitors.
The upgrades are part of the city’s larger Long Wharf Responsible Growth Plan for revitalizing the entire Long Wharf section of the city. Officials are pursuing coastal resiliency, floodwall and harbor-deepening improvements.
