City of Hartford’s CFO resigns amid budget crisis

Darrell V. Hill, the city of Hartford’s CFO since last summer, is resigning from his post as the city is trying to work through a major fiscal crisis that could lead to bankruptcy, Mayor Luke Bronin confirmed Wednesday.

The city is in the midst of considering bankruptcy and other options as it works to secure financial support from the state of Connecticut, which has been without a budget since July 1.

Bronin confirmed his departure without elaborating on the reason. It wasn’t immediately clear when his last day will be or who will replace him.

“Darrell has helped the city navigate an extraordinarily challenging time, and I’m very grateful for his service,” Bronin said in an email. “As he prepares to transition to new endeavors, we are fortunate to have a very strong team in place that I know will continue to manage with discipline and skill.”

Hill first came to work for the city from Virginia in the spring of 2014, when then Mayor Pedro Segarra named him the city’s chief operating officer.
