Citizens names Maass its CT chief

Long-time Connecticut banker Lisa Maass is now president of Citizens Bank’s state franchise.

Maass previously was Citizen’s state head of middle market banking since 2011. A member of the bank’s executive leadership group, she joined Citizens from former Connecticut Bank & Trust in 1994.

Ned Handy previously was chief of Citizens’ Connecticut and Rhode Island operations until 2013. The Connecticut slot has been formally vacant since then, a Citizens spokesman said Thursday.

A Wheaton College graduate, Maass serves on The Connecticut Food Bank development committee and is a founding board member of Read to Grow.

In Connecticut, Citizens has about 700 employees in its primary offices in Hartford and New Haven, where Maass mostly splits her time, and in branches across the state.

“I am looking forward to serving as state president in Connecticut,” Maass said in a statement. “Citizens has a strong and growing presence in Connecticut and I am honored to take on this new role as a way to serve the community and continue to deliver excellent service to our Connecticut customers.”

Citizens also promoted Quincy Miller to president of its Massachusetts franchise.

Based in Providence, R.I., $136 billion-asset Citizens Financial Group has been a stand-alone since going public last year. Former parent Royal Bank of Scotland retains a 41 percent stake, which it plans to fully divest by the end of 2016.
