Citizens Bank eyes CT branch closure

Citizens Bank said it’s closing one of its shoreline branches.

The Rhode Island-based lender has told the federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency it plans to close its branch in the East Lyme village of Niantic, at 43 Pennsylvania Ave. 

The branch held $85.3 million in deposits as of June 30, 2023, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. data.

Citizens has seven other branches in New London County, according to the FDIC, with overall deposits in the region totaling $951.9 million. 

As of June 30, 2023, Citizens Bank was the 10th largest bank in the state with $3.3 billion in deposits and 32 branches.
