Cirque du Soleil proves huge draw for XL Center

Despite a major snowstorm Tuesday, Cirque du Soleil’s latest touring show in Hartford has officially become the biggest selling Cirque show in the history of the XL Center, tour organizers said.

The winter storm cancelled the original opening night for “TORUK – The First Flight,” which was inspired by James Cameron’s movie “AVATAR.” There were supposed to seven shows, but that’s been reduced to six. Nonetheless, ticket sales exceeded several former Hartford shows including last year’s Cirque performance called, “OVO.”

More than 1,500 seats needed to be added to each remaining show to accommodate the high demand.

The total number of tickets sold wasn’t immediately available.

The show’s run started Thursday and runs through Sunday.
