Cigna spent $380K on 2Q lobbying

Bloomfield health insurer Cigna Corp. spent $380,000 in the second quarter lobbying the federal government on the health care overhaul, among other issues, The Associated Press reports.

Cigna’s total represented a 32 percent drop compared with last year’s second quarter and a 36 percent increase over the $280,000 it spent in the first quarter of 2011.

Cigna lobbied on issues related to the taxation of employer-provided health coverage and the overhaul, according to a four-page report filed with the clerk of the House of Representatives. Congress passed the overhaul last year, and it aims to eventually cover millions of uninsured people, but it also places a number of restrictions on insurers.
