Managed care provider Cigna Corp. has named Julia Huggins, a former manager on its Bloomfield office, as run its mid-Atlantic health care market.
Huggins is president and general manager for territory covering Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. She is based in Columbia, Md.
Huggins joined Cigna in 1999 as assistant vice president for sales effectiveness in Bloomfield before becoming the senior vice president of the Mid-Atlantic sales and customer service team in 2004.
Prior to CIGNA, Huggins had a 14-year career with Aetna Inc., holding an array of positions that gave her expertise in group underwriting, national accounts, pension and financial services and financial management.
Huggins has a B.S. in biology and chemistry from Saint Joseph’s College. She resides in Westminster, Md. with her husband and four children.
Separately, Cigna has announced it will develop and offer individual private medical insurance in nations outside the U.S.
The company’s Cigna International unit will also provide private medical insurance to individual expatriates and high net worth individuals, Cigna said.
The insurer named Keith Biddlestone to lead the program. Biddlestone has worked at Bupa International for more than 25 years, in various positions in Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions.
Most recently, Biddlestone served as managing director of Bupa’s global health care business based in the U.K.
