Philadelphia managed care provider Cigna Corp. announced a deal Thursday with MedSolutions to be Cigna’s exclusive radiology benefits providers in the U.S. Cigna’s claims headquarters is Bloomfield.
Cigna claims the arrangement, rolling out in various regions at mid-year, will improve patient safety and cut costs. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Both companies say the deal also expands their 13-year relationship to the national level. MedSolutions is based in suburban Nashville, Tenn.
Cigna said the MedSolutions program includes, among other things, an outreach program to help people undergoing an MRI, CT or PET scan to explore with their doctors where to have tests done.
Cigna said studies have shown that inappropriate use of medical services can expose patients to preventable risk and even harm and result in billions of dollars in unnecessary spending.
