After launching its own private insurance exchange in select markets earlier this year, Bloomfield health insurer Cigna said it will expand the exchange across all of its U.S. markets starting Sept. 1.
Cigna said the exchange offers employees more plan-design options than they might normally have and helps lower employers’ benefit costs. The proprietary exchange will include medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life and disability plans.
The insurer points to a Dec. 2013 survey by the Private Exchange Evaluation Collaborative that found that 45 percent of employers plan to consider or will be using a private exchange for their employees before 2018.
Cigna products are also sold on a number of other private exchanges run by benefits brokers. The insurer is not offering plans on Connecticut’s public exchange, Access Health CT.
