Cigna, CT Whale team for Hartford street hockey

Bloomfield health insurer Cigna Corp. is suiting up with the Connecticut Whale and YMCA of Greater Hartford to bring hockey to inner city kids in Hartford and East Hartford.

The “Cigna Hockey in the Streets” initiative kicks off Monday at The Wilson-Gray YMCA Youth and Family Center at 444 Albany Ave. in Hartford’s North End with a series of one-hour Connecticut Whale player clinics.

The clinics will be open to all Hartford and East Hartford boys and girls ages 6 to 12 years old. The clinic will give inner city kids the opportunity to play and learn hockey from the state’s flagship minor league hockey team .

The Y will be the  first to host the program, but it will be open to groups and venues throughout the region, officials said.
