Cigna, Aetna, UTC honored for Hispanic business practices

Cigna, Aetna and United Technologies have scored among the top companies nationwide for Hispanic business practices. Of the three, Cigna was the only one to improve its ratings from 2014.

That is according to the results of the 2015 Hispanic Association for Corporate Responsibility Index. It measures Hispanic inclusion at Fortune 100 companies and the association’s corporate member companies. The index indicated that nearly 25 percent of this year’s returning participants have improved their rating from 2014.

The index measures employment workforce and recruitment, procurement, philanthropy, and governance and leadership. Cigna earned 90 points out of 100 up from 85. Aetna was rated at 80 points out of 100, while UTC was rated at 60 percent.

Among the national findings of the report:

  • Hispanics comprise an average of more than 15 percent of the total reported employee base in corporate America.
  • Hispanics are still more likely to be found in non-exempt positions within corporate America.
  • On average, participants reported directing nearly 2 percent of total procurement spend to Hispanic-owned businesses.
  • Hispanics held just over 7 percent of board seats amongst the participating companies, which is higher than the average within the Fortune 500, but is still considered low.

The 2015 HACR CII report focuses on the progress that participating companies have made over the last year as well as the progress for Hispanics more generally in corporate America. A total of 128 companies received invitations to take part in the survey and 53 companies submitted surveys.
