Bloomfield health insurer Cigna Corp. reported net earnings of $505 million, or $176 per share, in its second fiscal quarter, up from $380 million a year ago.
Cigna’s revenue was up 7 percent at $7.98 billion, driven by increases in premiums and fees across its segments.
Its largest segment, global health care, posted a 9.5 percent increase in income, to $403 million, on higher revenue of $5.69 billion.
The company also said its acquisition of Great American Supplemental Benefits helped its benefits segment grow by 35 percent during the quarter to $613 million.
Cigna expects its adjusted income from operations for the full year to be in the range of $1.8 billion to $1.9 billion, or $6.25 to $6.65 per share.
