CI gets $100K bump for tech-driven businesses

The state’s quasi-public financing and venture arm Connecticut Innovations said the U.S. Small Business Administration has awarded it $100,000 to help science and tech-driven firms compete for federal grants.

CI’s small business innovation group will contact Connecticut firms that may qualify and provide technical assistance.

The grants, under SBA’s Federal and State Technology Partnership Program (FAST), are meant to help small companies compete for Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer funding.

“These dollars make a significant difference in the number of people we can reach regarding the advantages of developing and submitting an SBIR proposal, and ultimately going to market more quickly with a new technology,” Glendowlyn Thames, director of CI’s small business innovation group, said in a statement.

CI has received FAST funding since 2010, which has helped it assist 200 companies. In the recent round, 19 other states also received grants.
