Hartford’s Chrysalis Center is opening a new supportive housing facility in Plainville to help older adults transitioning out of homelessness.
The Chrysalis Center Housing Development Corp. has purchased and renovated the space at 80 Broad Street, formerly known as St. Phillip House.
The project was backed by $2.4 million in federal funding, provided through the Connecticut Department of Housing. It was one of nine such projects around the state announced last year by the department.
The renamed HEARRT House is designed to provide eight fully furnished units for residents aged 55 and older. The Chrysalis Center says that  referrals for the subsidized program will come from the 211 – Coordinated Access Network system.
CCHDC says the renovation includes energy-efficient upgrades and updated interiors. New residents will be supplied with beds, linens, cookware, towels and cleaning supplies.
The program will feature an on-site medical case manager who will work with residents to support their individual needs. Chrysalis says residents may transition out of the program once they have achieved stability but it expects some may require longer-term support.Â
“HEARRT House represents more than just housing—it reflects our deep commitment to equity, support, and dignity for every individual,” said CCHDC CEO Sharon Castelli. “This is a significant step forward in our mission to combat homelessness across Connecticut.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, June 20, and will feature Department of Housing Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno, who will officiate the event.Â
