Children’s Museum Gets Technology Grant

Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded a $50,000 technology grant to The Children’s Museum. The museum will put this grant toward computer hardware and systems, software, and staff training. The grant was awarded through the Hartford Foundation’s Nonprofit Support Program, which offers assessments, workshops and grants to help strengthen the organizational capacity of nonprofits.

“Upgrades to our technology equipment help us serve our public, the children and families who visit our museum and the young students whose classrooms we visit with our education outreach programs,” said Kevin Sullivan, president and CEO of The Children’s Museum in West Hartford.

The National Conference for Community and Justice of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts Inc. presented its annual Human Relations Award to Jeannette DeJesús, president and CEO, Hispanic Health Council; Christine Marcks, president, Prudential Retirement; John Patrick, Jr., CEO, Farmington Savings Bank, and Richard Rosenthal, owner, Max Restaurant Group. The award is presented to individuals who have distinguished themselves by conducting in their daily lives open-mindedness and respect, showing leadership by example, and diligence in their fight for human rights and dignity.

The New England Air Museum received a grant of $5,000 from the Maximilian E. & Marion O. Hoffman Foundation Inc. to support the delivery of the museum’s Soarfor Science education program to the Vernon Middle School fourth graders. This is the second year that the Hoffman Foundation has funded the Vernon Schools.

Our Piece of the Pie Inc., a youth development organization in Hartford, has won accreditation from the National Youth Employment Coalition for its continued work in helping Hartford youth overcome barriers and achieve economic independence. OPP is one of four organizations nationwide to receive full accreditation.

Hartford restaurants and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter partnered to present the third annual MS Taste of Hope to benefit those in Connecticut battling multiple sclerosis. The tasting, sponsored by EMD Serono, attracted more than 220 guests. With a contribution of $15,000 from the Gibney Foundation, the event raised more than $30,000. Participating restaurants included: The Society Room, Hartford; Piccolo Arancio, Farmington; Peppercorns Grill, Hartford; Dish, Hartford; Bosc Kitchen & Wine Bar, Avon; Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, West Hartford; and Whole Foods Market, Glastonbury.
