Cheshire’s Lane pays $1.5M for N.C. office site

CORRECTION: An earlier post incorrectly located Lane in Meriden.

Cheshire heavy civil contractor Lane Construction Corp. has paid $1.5 million for a Charlotte, N.C., office building into which to consolidate its area employees and operations there, BizJournals.com reports.

Lane in April bought the approximately 23,000-square-foot, single-story office building on Tyvola Centre Drive from Wells Fargo & Co. and plans to relocate 55 employees to the property from office space in Charlotte and Concord, The Charlotte Business Journal reports.

Lane’s Charlotte area employees are currently located at offices on Park South Drive in Charlotte and North Winds Drive in Concord. Lane says it expects its new office to be fully operational by Sept. 1.

Lane constructs bridges, highways, locks and dams, and mass transit and airport systems in more than 20 states. The company expanded into the Southeast in 2003 when it acquired former J.A. Jones Inc. subsidiary and Charlotte-based highway contractor Rea Construction Co. for $34 million.

After the acquisition, Lane changed the company’s name to Rea Contracting and has been operating in the Carolinas alongside Rea on projects such as the Yadkin River Bridge on Interstate 85 and the creation of an I-485/I-85 turbine interchange.

On Jan. 1, the Rea Contracting name was dropped in favor of the parent company’s name.
