The U.S. Department of Labor said Artbeats Inc. in Cheshire faces $56,430 in fines following inspections that uncovered repeat safety violations.
The department’s OSHA division visited the company, which reproduces prints and paintings, in December following a complaint from an employee.
Inspectors said Artbeats failed to teach workers the risks and safeguards associated with chemicals like paints and gels. The company also failed to train workers how to power down and lock industrial saws prior to performing maintenance and prevent employees from using certain electrical equipment in areas that accumulate combustible wood dust.
The findings were similar to a 2010 inspection’s report at Artbeats’ Bridgeport facility, OSHA said.
The company can contest the findings before an independent OSHA commission.
