Middletown-based Community Health Center Inc., which has primary care facilities across Connecticut, said it has received $995,000 federal grant to upgrade the dental clinic at its New London location.
The clinic, which serves more than 5,000 low income, uninsured and publicly insured dental patients each year, will get new equipment, enhanced handicapped accessibility and parking lot improvements, CHC said.
CHC is a federally qualified health center, which provides it with enhanced reimbursement rates from government health insurance programs like Medicaid.
FQHCs provide primary care to underserved populations and adjust their fees based on patients’ incomes.
As of 2013, there were more than 327,000 Connecticut patients served by FQHCs, according to the National Association of Community Health Centers.
