Chase debuts in downtown Hartford

JPMorgan Chase Bank has planted a flag in downtown Hartford.

A spokeswoman for the New York-based multinational investment bank and financial services company confirmed its first Hartford branch in downtown’s CityPlace II skyscraper opened on Tuesday.

The Chase location, which employs 11 people, is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m, she said. The space features open, collaborative spaces for meetings and so-called “Chase Chats.”

Construction crews began renovating the space, formerly occupied by Bank of America on the corner of Trumbull and Pearl streets, in June.

Chase is now the 18-story building’s second new bank tenant in the last year or so. United Bank, which is in the process of being acquired by People’s United Bank, opened a branch there last summer.

The branch, equipped with bank associates (formerly known as bank tellers), “relationship bankers” and private client bankers, will provide home and commercial lending, the spokeswoman said.

Chase’s new Hartford site is part of its larger expansion effort across Connecticut.

Chase has said it will open an Avon branch at 201 West Main St., and has received federal approval to operate other locations in South Windsor, Cheshire and Ridgefield.

According to Chase, it has about 5,000 branches and 16,000 ATMS serving 62 million households and over four million small businesses nationwide.
