Spectrum News, a subsidiary of Stamford-based Charter Communications Inc., has agreed to buy New England Cable News (NECN) from Comcast-owned NBC Universal.
Spectrum News said it will acquire substantially all of NECN’s assets, including the network’s existing distribution agreements throughout New England.
The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed.
Under the agreement, Spectrum News networks serving Maine and Massachusetts will merge with NECN and operate under the brand Spectrum News NECN. The combined network will continue distribution through existing NECN carriage arrangements throughout New England.
Spectrum said the rebranded channel will be available to its customers in Maine and Massachusetts, as well as to Comcast Xfinity TV subscribers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Spectrum News NECN will operate from NECN’s studios in Needham, Massachusetts.
The acquisition comes as Charter prepares for a previously approved merger with Cox Communications Inc., a transaction expected to close in mid-2026.
