Nonprofit healthcare provider Charter Oak Health Center has named an industry veteran as its new president and CEO.

Vernette Townsend was appointed as the group’s leader effective Jan. 1, according to an announcement this week.
Townsend has more than 30 years of experience in nursing and healthcare leadership.
“Throughout her career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to addressing health inequities, fostering innovation and championing patient-centered care,” the announcement states.
Most recently, she was the chief nursing officer at Charter Oak.
The organization said Townsend’s achievements align with its mission to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to all, regardless of ability to pay.
Charter Oak offers services, including primary care, dental care, behavioral health and specialty services.
