WVIT Channel 30 is bracing for layoffs at the network-owned television news station in West Hartford.
A spokeswoman for parent NBC Universal today declined to say how many people would be affected or when pink slips may be issued. NBC Universal is owned by Fairfield-based General Electric Co.
“These are difficult decisions and aren’t taken lightly,” said spokeswoman Liz Fischer.  “This is about managing business in the face of changing technology and the current economic climate.”
WVIT is putting the finishing touches on a new multi-million-dollar broadcast station adjacent to the existing station on Ridgewood Road, near I-84.
