Changing business climate prompts Barclay Damon to modify practice areas

Local law firm Barclay Damon is tweaking some practice areas to align with increased demand for assistance in data security, technology and intellectual property licensing.

Barclay Damon announced it is making two changes. Its former Cybersecurity Team has been elevated to practice area status within the firm and is now called the Data Security & Technology Practice Area.

The change formalizes the team’s role as a key firm practice, according to Barclay Damon.

The practice area will focus on issues such as contract counseling, drafting and negotiation for information technology transactions, legal compliance, due diligence for corporate transactions, incident response, defense to regulatory investigations, and representation in data security and information technology litigation.

Attorneys Renato Smith and Kevin Szczepanski now serve as co-chairs of the Data Security & Technology Practice Area.

The firm has also renamed its Trademarks, Copyrights & IP Transactions Practice Area to the Trademarks, Copyrights & Licensing Practice Area.

According to the firm, the new name better reflects its focus on the licensing, development, and commercialization of clients’ intellectual property. Attorneys in this practice area also focus on preparing and prosecuting trademark and copyright applications, enforcing clients’ rights, and handling various intellectual property and technology-related agreements.
