Chad Wilkins to run Webster’s HSA Bank

Former UnitedHealth Group executive Charles “Chad’’ Wilkins is the new chief of Webster Financial Corp.’s HSA Bank healthcare savings plan unit, effective Friday.

Wilkins also was named executive vice president of the Waterbury bank holding company and its flagship Webster Bank. Wilkins will report to Webster Chairman and CEO Jim Smith.

Based in Sheboygan, Wis., HSA Bank manages some $2 billion in savings-plan deposits and assets for 600,000 consumers nationwide.

Wilkins succeeds Dean Mason, who left HSA Bank last summer, a spokeswoman said.

Wilkins, 52, previously ran his own consulting practice specializing in healthcare and financial services. Before that, the 25-year banking and healthcare industry veteran was general manager and CEO of UnitedHealth’s OptumHealth Financial Services unit.

There, he managed all aspects of the $400 million financial services division, with more than 500 employees. Wilkins began his career at US Bank in Minneapolis.

Wilkins is a graduate of Lehigh University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in political science.

He is active in United Way, Special Olympics, and Crossroads Career Network.
